Welcome to the Butler County Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service. The service will match persons seeking an attorney with a lawyer who provides services in the area of legal need. The person who is inquiring about a lawyer referral needs to fill out a brief information sheet and submit it to the Butler County Bar Association. The referral service will then match a client to a lawyer based on the stated legal need. The client will be provided with contact information for the attorney. It is the client’s responsibility to make an appointment with the attorney at his/her office. The attorney may charge up to twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for the first conference (not to exceed ½ hour) or up to fifty dollars ($50.00) for the first hour. The attorney will discuss the fee agreement with each client explaining the extent of their services. If the attorney has a conflict of interest or is not able to represent the client, the client should return to the Butler County Bar Association‘s office for a second referral.

If a person is in need of a lawyer, has limited means and does not qualify for Neighborhood Legal Services or VOICE services, the Butler County Bar Association has a reduced fee program. The client will be asked to fill out a reduced fee information sheet and verify household income with a W2 form or pay stubs. If the person qualifies, the process is the same as outlined above except that the attorney will discuss the fee agreement explaining the extent of their services at a reduced rate.
